When Did You Last Review Your Will? You should review your will regularly to ensure that it reflects your current wishes and circumstances. It is not unusual for people to prepare a series of wills during their lifetime as their circumstances change with marriage, divorce or the birth of children. Despite the importance of a will, there is still a common misconception that making a will is a simple task that doesn’t require legal expertise. It is true that a will might be a concise and brief document, however, brevity does not necessarily equate with simplicity. Too many people don’t seem to comprehend the true significance of a will. It is a document that determines the fate of all the material and financial achievements accumulated by a person in their lifetime. A poorly drafted will too often results in the intended beneficiaries missing out on an inheritance or, even worse, expensive legal action between unhappy family members as they fight over the eventual ownership of a deceased person’s possessions and bank accounts.
